Volvo Car Corporation urges seamless, federal framework for regulating autonomous vehicles

Entering the field of autonomous driving - self-driving vehicles - is the next step in Volvo Car Corporation's development of the world's safest cars. "Autonomous driving has potential for improving road safety, traffic flow and fuel economy. To make this happen it is important to avoid a patchwork of various state regulations," stated Peter Mertens, Senior Vice President, Research and Development of Volvo Car Corporation, at a seminar in Washington, D.C., yesterday.

The seminar "Policy Implications of Autonomous Vehicles," which was arranged by the Embassy of Sweden and Volvo Car Corporation, focused on the policy opportunities and challenges of autonomous vehicles.

Maryland Man Becomes Latest Volvo "Million Miler"

On a recent Saturday morning, Baltimore-area resident Selden Cooper, 66, visited his dealership of 25 years, Lehman Motors Volvo, for a routine oil change in his 1987 Volvo 240 sedan - the vehicle's 200th oil change. That very day, Sept. 22, 2012, Cooper joined Volvo's growing list of million-mile drivers, a rarity for auto manufacturers.

First batch of V60 Plug-in Hybrid sold out - and rapid renewal of the model range in 2013

On top of launching the all-new V40 Cross Country and V40 R-Design, Volvo Car Corporation revealed more exciting news at the company's press conference at the 2012 Paris Motor Show on Thursday: the first batch of the groundbreaking Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid is sold out before the car has reached the showrooms - and the order books for next year's cars are already filling up. Volvo also announced that the rapid renewal of the model lineup is continuing next year.
